Jumpsuit made it’s official entry in the fashion scene in the American Vogue issue in 1964, where Irving Penn’s photography of Guy Laroche in brown wool jersey one piece paired with seal skin jacket made a bold fashion statement a month later. The late 1960’s and 70’s saw the emergence of jumpsuit in the most robust way where the most prime designers of the world like Oscar De La Renta, Christian Dior, Andre Courreges, Yves Saint Laurent had their own version of a jumpsuit created which they featured in the fashion weeks as well. In the 70’s jumpsuit became way more unisex where Elvis Presley would sport it as a part of their stage persona infusing more hippiness in the attire. In the 80’s jumpsuit became so popular that American designer Geoffrey Beene called it as the “ballgown of next century”. In the early 2000’s the style fell out of the way but in recent years it has gained it’s pride back, the prime initiative was taken by Nicolas Ghesquire who was with Balenciaga at the time when he was experimenting with various fabrics and patterns that can give jumpsuit a much more contemporary look.
